White lithium grease is also used in marine applications to lubricate door hinges, steering cables and throttle and shaft linkages. Further, this lubricant is used to lubricate swivel brackets and loader winch gears. White lithium grease is made from oil and lithium soap and was first introduced following World War II.
Your wheel bearings were probably originally lubed with a lithium-12-complex grease, a perfectly good grease for wheel-bearing use, even on a boat trailer if it's maintained. Shooting some more ...
Lucas White Lithium Grease is a Multi-Purpose high quality NLGI #2 formulation. White and creamy in appearance, the White Lithium Grease resist extreme pressure properties and is recommended for everything from household applications, to a variety of automotive uses including chassis, trucks, tractors and contractor equipment.
Lithium soap is a soap consisting of a lithium salt of a fatty acid. Sodium-based and potassium-based soaps are used as cleaning agents in domestic and industrial applications, whereas lithium soaps are used as components of lithium grease (white lithium).
Lithium-based grease has a dropping point at 190 °C to 220 °C (350 °F to 400 °F). However the maximum usable temperature for lithium-based grease is 120 °C. Greases used for axles are composed of a compound of fatty oils to which tar, graphite, or mica is added to increase the durability of the grease and give it a better surface. Additives
How to Use White Lithium Grease. There are a variety of lubricants available for automotive, home, marine and shop usage, but none quite as good or versatile as white lithium grease. When it creaks, sticks, jams or rubs chances are white lithium grease can solve the problem.
What is lithium grease? Is tithi'um in the grease toxic? What other contents in lithium grease could cause a disease problem? A chemical dictionary describes lithium greases as greases using lithium soaps of the higher fatty acids as a base. They are water resistant and are stable when heated above their melting point and cooled again.
I've cleaned all of the contacts with Contact Cleaner... but there are a lot of surfaces that still require a persistent lubricant; a grease of some kind, that won't affect conductivity, won't corrode metal, and is safe for rubber washers. looking into older posts, a lot of Wah-buildings have suggested using Lithium Grease.
The grease must release enough oil in the contact zone of the application (bearings, gears), while not releasing so much oil during storage to cause the product to become unusable. If the oil separates excessively during storage, the grease may not be able to be remixed and used. Table 1. Properties of Lithium and Lithium Complex Greases
Last year I put some white lithium (mineral oil based) grease on my 2010 Jeep Wrangler's hardtop weather-stripping & seals and kept it buttoned up until yesterday when the family and I went to the mountains with it off.
Most lubricating greases are mixtures of an oil and a soap. The soap is dispersed into the oil to form a stable, viscous gel that is called a grease. Grease made with lithium soap ("lithium grease") adheres particularly well to metal, is non-corro...
Effective in a temperature range from 0° F to 300° F, WD-40 Specialist White Lithium Grease provides unbeatable protection with long-lasting lubrication on auto hinges, gears, sprockets, outdoor hinges, latches, overhead door tracks, pulleys, cables and guide rails.

ing Grease Institute defines grease as, "a solid to semi-solid product of disper-sion of a thickening agent in a liquid lubricant. Additives imparting special properties may be included."1 Grease making is a relatively simple time-temperature process: a one-pot batch method. For a soap grease, fatty acids are added; if it is non-soap, the
Some people prefer to use petroleum jelly simply because they have already have it on hand, it is less expensive than lithium grease and they can use it for other purposes. Either product will complete the task of protecting your car battery from corrosion, however white lithium grease is the recommended product that is used by professionals.
Typically lithium-based, it's usually not water-resistant or waterproof, nor is it rated for use in bearing applications. While it would work in a pinch for boat-trailer bearings, it's not the best grease for this application.
MP Grease is a NLGI (National Lubrication Grease Institute) number 2 grease that is recommended for most automotive, agriculture and light transport applications i.e., chassis lubrication and steering linkage joints. This grease provides the lubrication needed while also coating the components in a wash-proof layer of protection from the elements.
Greases based on simple lithium soaps (lithium stearate or lithium 12-hydroxystearate) and lithium complex soaps (containing simple soap and a complexing agent, such as lithium azelate) may or may not be compatible with polyurea greases. This is because of the wide variety of materials that can be reacted to form a thickener that is termed ...
Grease is a semisolid lubricant.Grease generally consists of a soap emulsified with mineral or vegetable oil. The characteristic feature of greases is that they possess a high initial viscosity, which upon the application of shear, drops to give the effect of an oil-lubricated bearing of approximately the same viscosity as the base oil used in the grease.
Looking for lithium grease? Find out information about lithium grease. Heat-stable, water-resistant lubricating grease with lithium salts of higher fatty acids as a base; used for low-temperature service in aircraft Explanation of lithium grease
The problem with older grease products and even some of the newer conceptional grease products like Mobil EP-2 is that the binder of the grease stays behind and the oil and volatiles disappear with use. In theory, as you add new grease, the older spent grease should ooze out as it gets displaced.
Then it might be a pressure-rated lithium grease. Lithium grease comes in a bunch of different colors and mixtures. The intended application for a grease is sorted based on their color. That sounds like Moly Grease to me. Which, come to think of it, is in constant contact with rubber axle boots, which don't seem to have any problems with it.
A commercial lubricating grease usually consists of a thickener ( 5 to 35 wt %), base oil ( 65 to 95 wt %) and various additives (0 to 10 wt %). Lubricating greases are classified based on the thickener that constitutes the grease matrix. The most widely used thickeners are based on lithium and calcium.

IMO, Lithium grease is no good for anything. It separates and leaves a white crusty mess that you have to chip away to clean up. sometimes the crustiness binds up what the grease is supposed to be lubricating. Anti seize is great, regular chassis grease and wheel bearing grease also work well.
Lithium and its compounds have several industrial applications, including heat-resistant glass and ceramics, lithium grease lubricants, flux additives for iron, steel and aluminium production, lithium batteries, and lithium-ion batteries. These uses consume more than three quarters of lithium production.
Lithium grease may be used in the household and in mechanical situations as a lubricant. Each company sells a different form of lithium grease, sometimes adding different chemicals at differing amounts. You will have to examine each and try to determine which would work best for your intended uses.
Lithium compounds are used in some drugs known as mood stabilizers. Lithium niobate is used in radio transmitters in cell phones. Some lithium compounds are also used in ceramics. Lithium chloride can absorb water from other things. Some lithium compounds are used to make soap and grease.
• Mobilux EP 3 is a stiffer NLGI grade 3 grease recommended for applications where maximum protection against penetration of water or solid contaminants is required. • Mobilux EP 004 and Mobilux EP 023 are particularly suitable for the lubrication of enclosed gears and bearings in poorly sealed gear cases on most underground mining ...
This versatile lithium grease is designed for light duty applications requiring a long grease life such as electric garage doors or CV joints. This reliable grease will not break down or run out, making it ideal for a wide range of automotive and industrial applications as well. High purity, NLGI Grade 2 lithium-based grease
